If it were me I would get a V10 truck (which you have no trouble finding in TX) around the same year (06') or newer. Last thing I would buy is a 6.0l truck.
I'm also thinking i will pretty safe..the truck is super clean.. not a scratch on it, literally. It was sunday (today). I haven't driven it yet, i am just waiting for my 5.4 to go under the workload it has ahead of it each day...Also i am thinking i can get them to go down a bit 18,000 sounds fair $7500 for my truck on a trade in (my guesstimates)
The 2003-2004 were the worst one. Steer clear of those. The later 2005-2007 were much better and with some reasonable PA they are great motors. I would buy one in a heart beat if I needed to.
6.0s are nothing to be afraid of, they just need to be properly inpected before purchase. I.e. get checked out with an AE and get an OASIS report.
On that note, since I have an AE, I'd be more than happy to check the truck out for you and make sure you don't have a potential problem on your hands.
With 80K on the clock, the selling dealer may be able to offer you a good extended warranty. If you do hit a fork in the road, you won't have much to worry about.
Actually do some research and you will see that the 03' and 04' were not the only years for the 6.0l trucks as far as problems go. Saying "Only the early 2003-2004 6.0 trucks were bad." is not correct, not all 03' and 04' 6.0l owners had trouble, just was more common on those years. Ford made some improvements after 05' but that did not fix all the issues, especially EGR system related. There is a reason that the used market is flooded with mint 6.0l trucks right under or slightly over the 100k mile mark. And there is reason the 7.3l trucks are holding their value so well.
