I cannot get my 1996 F150 FWD to pass emissions. I drive it thru its cycles and put the tester on it and it shows ready but as soon as I turn the engine off to run the emissions it fails. Please Help!!!
I am trying to get my truck emissions to pass. If I start it and drive a few miles to the emissions place it shows 4 things not ready...catalyst, 02 sensor, 02 heater, EGR. If I drive it for 11 miles and turn it off and restart it and drive it 11 more miles 5 times for a total of 55 miles then it shows ready. But as soon as I turn it off and don't start it right back it shows not ready. I live in Ga and 2 different places have turned it off to run emissions. They said 1996 and above have to be turned off.
Ah, OK, a code reader seems to be having problems talking to your computer.
I would first be suspicious of electrical connections, particularly to the computer itself as well as the O2 sensor and EGR stuff under the hood.
What you can do is take the truck to an auto parts store that will let you borrow a code reader in the parking lot, that might help you narrow down and/or locate the problem.
