Here are the end of year sales for the Excursion:
2000: 50786
2001: 34710
2002: 29042
2003: 26259
2004: 20010
2005: 16283
2006: 965
TOTAL: 178,055
(the '06 model appears to have been for Mexico...)
Despite our hatred for the tree-hugging morons in our society, its easy to see why the X was killed from the Ford line-up. They likely never sold what they thought they would the 1rst year and only sold 1/2 as many in the 3rd year.
I'm always surprised that when I look up info online about MY model year, 2000, they always reference the V10 and the 7.3 diesel, but rarely or never talk about the V8 5.4 model which is what I have.
It's amazing to me too, that there's still so many of them out there for sale. I picked up one of those free "truck & rv catalog" things here in the mid-west for Indiana, and found a dealer advertising in there who currently has 3 EX's for sale right NOW on his lot. If I only had some $$, I'd beat a path to his lot and get me a diesel.
ETA: Weird... I just looked up the site online... only 1 is listed in their inventory now... but the free catalog shows they have 3. Maybe they just haven't put them all online yet.

i think the reason is because the amount of V8s produced was much, much smaller then the number of V10/diesels.
