On my 1980 f1oo the column is pretty much toast... Its an auto & where the shifter slides in, the pin hole is all wallowed out & it has a bolt going through it now. also it has a possible bearing/bushing thats bad as the shaft going through the column has alot of "slop"
Is there a diagram anywhere with part numbers?
I know it would be easier to get another column, but I'm thinking of a nice inside project for my son & I when cabin fever sets in this coming winter.
I would love to have a "HOW TO" I need to rebuild my tilt column. been having hell trying to find a turn singnal switch. Where are you from BLUE? I think I have a turn singal switch for a un tilt column I got off ebay.
1983 6.9 with no cruise 4 speed standard. I have tired every parts store NONE look like mine and the only one that does doesn't have the plug in at teh end just wires with metal cilps at the end.

I think somebody's been messin' around in that area on your truck, or maybe I'm just confused and not understanding correctly...
To my knowledge, they ALL have the moon-sliver-like connector.
Here is a pic of an old one:
A brand new switch kit from FoMoCo comes with the switch assembly, a protective sheath for the wires, a new sliver-shaped connector with red retainer, and an instruction sheet.
Here is a fairly new one with the wires not inserted into the gray connector:
In order to remove the old one, you need to remove the red retainer in the gray plastic connector, then use a small tool to move the individual wire retainers out of the way while you remove each wire one by one.
MAKE NOTE OF WHAT COLOR WIRE IS INSTALLED WHERE SO YOU CAN RE-CONNECT IT PROPERLY
Installation is the reverse of removal.
For your 1983 non-tilt (BTW thank you for filling out your profile so I can see where you live, I chose places close to you):
E1HZ-13341-HAreplaced E1HZ-13341-K SWITCH and MOUNTING PLATE ASSY. (TURN INDICATOR) Fits 1980/83 F100/350, E-Series van, & Bronco with manual or auto trans w/fixed steering column // Kit includes (1) E1HZ-13341-HA & (1) instr. sheet.

Not meaning to hijack this gentleman's tread but can you tell me if the part numbers for 3B676 above is exchangeable 1980-1991 possibly up to 96?? Mine has a ripped dust boot and thinking a used one might be a way to go. My books only go as far as 1986.
------------------
So to keep this post a little bit on topic, some aftermarket turn signal switches do not come with a connector. You have to reuse the old connector that's on the old switch.
Motorcraft parts may be more expencive but you get what you pay for

I only have the 1980/89 parts book (produced in 1994) but, looking at it, I would venture to say "maybe."
Or
"It depends."
This is another one of those "Before month/year" and "After month/year" things.
I shoulda figured something like this was going to happen....
Why?
Anyhoo, go look up your Build date, then find it in here:
So I knew that the lower shaft would give me some problems.
However...
From what I see from your info, the upper shaft is the same for the fixed wheels on F-100/F-350 and U-150 from 1980 to at least 1989 with fixed wheels.
With that as given above, and with the steering gearbox being the same 1980-1996...
That and 1982 after 12/81 to at least 1989 for the lower shaft with power steering...
So the length of the shaft should be the same as my 1981....
So what could be different with the lower shaft so it wouldn't work. My upper shaft is the same, the gearbox is the same...
I'm thinking if I use the 1982/up parts and also swap the rag joint at the same time that the later lower shafts would work. Unless this has something to do with the swiss cheese frames and how the box mounts to it... Time to measure and compare parts methinks... Will keep you posted.
I think there is a difference between manual and power steering. 92-96/7 is a completely different setup. It is a "stub" column with U-joints at both ends of the slip joint.
