I was looking at swaping in a 5.9l cummins into a 74' F250 High boy and i was wondering if any one of yall had done this at all and had a list of parts needed for the swap I plan on buying a junked truck to pull the engine and wiring and ect... I planned on mating it to a E4OD tranny with the adapter plate on the engine to be able to use a standard bell housing.
Any input would be greatly appriecated.
And before I get any brand name haters Ford does use cummins the the larger trucks as an option.
I am in the process of swapping the 5.9's little brother into my 78 F150 4x4. At this point, I can tell you that you will need the following:
1) E4OD with the small pattern bellhousing from behind a 302 or 6 cyl.
2) Cummins flywheel housing from a step van conversion
3) Cummins flywheel from a step van conversion
4) Cummins starter and starter spacer from a stepvan conversion.
Or you can go aftermarket on all the above............I just like using stock parts if possible on my stuff. The stepvan conversions were used on frito and bread trucks a bunch. You can find the bits and peices on ebay or at this website in the classifieds.
The 4btswaps forum is an EXCELLENT source of info on swapping them in. Just introduce yourself properly on there and they are almost as willing to help you out as FTE members. Hope this all helps.............
