1997 F150 opinions. Please chime in!!!!

Hey guys, I need some advice. I am able to get a 1997 F150 ext. cab 4x4 4.6l auto with 200,000 miles on it for $700. It needs a new rear end cause the one in it locked up and broke the pinion I believe. It runs good but I cant drive it due to the rear end issue. I use to have a 1997 with a 4.6 and ran it to 210,000 before I sold it and liked it alot. I guess I am wondering what you guys think? Is it worth it? Will it run a while yet? Any other issues to look for? Its a dealer that my brother in law deals with so he knows the guys. Its in good shape. Please let me know what you think. Thanks alot, Mike

See what the average going price is for that truck.
If it has no codes set, and is in general good health otherwise, sounds good.
You may still have to put brakes, shocks and tires on it and check out the front suspension but it should still not exceed the average used value.
If it does at least you know what you have after repairs vs buying something else at the higher price and still have to fix it.
That's the way I look at it.
Good luck.

$700 is about scrap value, can't lose IMO. Should be in it for $1K if you find and install a rear yourself. Got over 240K on mine and no major issues other than my spark plug that liked to spit out.

check and see what a local junkyard would want for a replacement rear end. And if you are confident in your mechanical skills to change it I would go for it. It is a good looking truck.

Hello, A rear should be available somewhere. Do it. Please get back to us with what you do or at least the price of a rear. Kira
