duel exaust

i have a 1991 ford e150 van 5.0 efi i want to install duel exaust with headers
i would like to have them equal length and have them exit under rear bumper i was looking under the truck and have thoughts of running the pipes down the the frame rails (duel tanks) so i dont have the the big mess neer the drive shaft and everything on one side has anyone ever done this to an f or e truck does not look like it will be to hard to complete also truck is stock and what problems will i have i want to remove the cat
and what to do with the o2 sensor i dont have to pass the gvt sniffer test (3 inch stainless pipes and was thinking of doing this without mufflers) should sound good

well, shorties are going to be the easiest to put on the van, JCWhtiney sells some good ones that allow you to use your factory exhaust. Your gonna want your O2 sensor left in the system, if you remove it the system will run full rich, smells real bad and your fuel mileage goes from poor to miserable. I would go a hig-flow cat, steming off the factory y pipe (most of the shorties will bolt up to the factory y) it should already be "dual" mine is. just cut it right in front of the current cat. weld some short pipes in place, just long enough to reach the new cat, make sure you get a dual-in dual-out cat, then run your pipes down the passenger side of the van, and split in front of the rear gas tank.

No cat and no mufflers? Are you planning on wearing ear plugs when you drive?

there is no exaust on the van now just a cat thats is orignal equipment so i`am sure its burned out with the amount of bends i will have to put in the exause pipes and given the length that the exaust will be i think it will sound pretty good i ran a trans am with a 400 (6.6) the same way and sounded good and the exaust is half the length and very few bends

I have two Ford trucks and both have dual exhuast. My 1993 F-150 has a cat-back exhuast with an edlebrock muffler and twin pipes that stick out each side behind the wheels. It has the perfect sound, I believe.

My 1989 F-150 has true dual exhuast, from where the original pipes would have went into the pre-heater on back to turbos and out each side. It has a mean sound.

I would advise against running pipes w/o mufflers and cats. You need to have some backpressure or you will eventually have valve problems. If you run full-length headers, you may not neccessarily have a problem and you can run w/o the cat or mufflers.

Believe me, these trucks are SUPER LOUD running just straight piped headers. It is also illegal in most states for noise pollution.

Also, dual 3" pipes are way bigger than what you need (even with cats and mufflers) unless you've got big cubic inches and some serious horsepower. Dual 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" should be more than adequate.

Pastmaster - I had an Edelbrock muffler on my Bronco and thought it sounded great too. Awesome muffler!
