I'd say the # of polls is about right. However, you have to be very careful in evaluating them. For example, people in different parts of the country may have very different thoughts on some issues so where the data is collected is important. Another trick is how the questions are worded. Pollsters know this well, and will at times be crafty in their wording of the questions in order to achieve the "desired" result. It get's old when a pollster askes the same question three differernt times in a different way each time, hoping to trick ya, and when they do it to me, I love telling them "you already asked me that".
Polls done right are just fine, but unfortunatly so many are rigged and the people don't dig into it enough to figure it out. Bummer.
