So Im about to do the rear end drop with the hanger and shackle kit from LMC. Says it will drop it about 4 inches. Can I take the bottom leaf springs out for another inch drop without it hurting anything. The bottom leaf springs arnt connected to the others it looks like its just a spacer spring if that makes any sense. How hard is it to take them out? i want the back as low as to the ground as possible without haveing to cut the bed or do anything major. So after the kit and taken the springs out it will prolly be around 5 inches is that the max drop without having to change anything else or do i have a few more inches i could find somewhere?
A 4" drop will leave you aweful close to the rails if I am not mistaken. I would crawl under the truck and measure travel of the rear axle. If you don't have enough travel you will nail the rail with the rear end which will only lead to future problems. Bent rear housing would be the first to come to mind. Removing leaves weakens load capacity along with increases the "desire" to travel more. Leaf removal comes down to what you want from the truck.
I pulled #2 and #4 out of mine. Got a 3" drop. Temp as we are putting a TBird IRS in it. I also haul absolutely nothing in my truck. I have a 4x4 for those kinds of tasks. It also isn't being driven that much now either. I have some pics of a 6" drop next to a stock truck. This is the front after a IFS swap with 1 1/2" drop springs. I have pics of before springs and after.
Where exaclty do i put the tape mesuare? At the axle to the leafs? Im not going to do any hauling its going to be a show truck. Im wanting the look most people probably dont like. I want the rear dropped and not the front. Kind of like if you are carrying a load. Ive always liked the look of the rear lower than the front. Gives it a mean look kinda like a crockadile with his head up and mouth open and his body flat if that makes sense lol. Jumping out at you. Anyways i need the tape location to messaure. Thanks again and im going to have pictures of it once i do it.
Top of axle (leaves providing they are still on top of the axle) to the bottom of the frame rail. Truck sitting on the ground or with the suspension loaded. Look for places where contact will occur when the suspension moves up and down.
