I had a flat a couple months ago with no spare. It just so happened that the guy that owns the tire shop I went to had an extra rim so I could have a spare. I would keep checking ebay from time to time. I want to get an extra set so I can mount some hummer tires on them I'm running 33's right now, but it would be fun to play around with 37's. Plus there cheaper then the 33's. I payed $180 a piece for 33's and I can buy hummer tires off ebay for $100. I might have to lift the truck up a little or cut some of the fender off the front. I'll worry about it when I have more time.

Hit up 406YJ for those 37's, he has them for $65 each with really cheap shipping.
if there so unsafe why does the military use them on all humvees and 1 1/4 ton trailers as far as not finding the 16.5 wheel/rim you can get new or used ones all over the place just off the top of my head stockton wheel in stockton cal.make and sales them all day long and if that dont work army surplus sells them off the humvees with the run flats and bead locks. just my 2 cents
if your looking for the military goodyear oz tires 37 12.5 16.5 around your area (if your by any military post) look for the DRMO ask around thay sell all the used stuff from post ive gotten a set before for 45 bucks no lie 45 bucks and thay had about 85 to 90% tread left or google search military surplus/tires hope it helps
> Any idea where to get one or two good 16.5 rims that will fit with my 33 16.5 12.50 tires?
I have between 10-12 used chrome ones, some painted black. 16.50 x 9.75. All hold air, they still have tires on them.
Tyres Int. carries new ones. You can mail order them from World of Wheels. Summit Racing might carry them too.
The only time I have seen someone get a tire blow out was a fool that would not listen to me and mounted warranty return 16.50 at the Ford dealer on his F-250 16" rims because they were "free" and new. Blew his truck off the lift, knocked him out, and broke his wrist. Other then that, those free tires were awesome
I have driven on pavement over a mile on a flat 33x12.50R16.50. It totally shredded the tire, but, it stayed on the rim. I might uploaded a picture of that. Got a few looks, but, I didn't want to stop in that area to change my tire.
I wouldn't stick my head over or in front of any tire while filling it up with air, I use a remote hose and gauge, especially with a 16.50. But, I do not consider them any more dangerous to run and the safety factor of the ply count, sidewall thickness, and load capacity make them a safer tire imho then most other tires.
I know there were things going back and forth about how dangerous 16.5 rims were on passenger vans that had blow outs at highway speed and the tire coming off, but, I think that is more driver error then anything. I run 33x15.50R16.50 on the rear of my 4x4 van. It sits for a month at a time and the Interco tires never lose air.
WRONG!! I sell more 16.5 wheels and tires than prob. anyone in the US. 16.5 is no different than any other tire size as far as having a tire "pop off". As a mater of fact there are more 16.5 beadlocks out there than any other wheel.
I run 49" tires on 16.5" wheels.
If you air down without a beadlock I don't care what size tire you are running you are going to have problems. 16.5 wheels do NOT have a problem anymore than any other size wheel for tire "pop off".
Question my knowledge of 16.5 wheels. After all I have 1000's of them I think I would know
(This truck is full, front to back of 37" 16.5 tires)

Do you have any 33-12.50-16.5 tires new or used will work I need two of them. You can e-mail me at case.446@hotmail.com thanks.
Back to the original post, the dealer was probably as said, trying to make a sale on a new set of rims, or just didn't know any better and was associating the 16.5 tires with the old split ring rims. They were notorious fpr popping off when seating the beads.

Reason: wrong size
I run 16.5's on three different trucks... all of which are used in comp mud racing, and bogging etc. I have never had one blow off the rim... and we run a mere 10PSI in them.
A lot of tires available in 16.5 are not offered in any other size... and Ford is still using this size from the factory... I highly doubt they're going anywhere. Don't know... maybe someone has had an issue with them blowing off, but I can say it's certain not something you can "expect" to happen.

Exactly what I was about to suggest, good call. I used to run a used tire shop and never had any issues with the 16.5 except when "hillbilly jimbob" insisted that 16's would fit just fine lol. As far as the split rims, we seldom fooled with them as they can be dangerous.

Do you have any 37 12.5 16.5 tires in that trailer you could ship my way. Let me know a price at firedawg32@hotmail.com
I have run 16.5 wheels & tires in past years. I never had any trouble with them. One thing that will cause trouble is try mounting a 16" tire on a 16.5 rim & you have trouble. But 16.5 rims & tires worked great for me for years.
I bought a 1983 F-250 just because it came with almost new 33 16.5 12.5 tires on 16.5 rims. I just found out that the one tire that was flat had a repair done poorly on the inside bottom of the rim. Theres a hole, it was welded and currently allows a small leak. Now i cant find a 16.5 wheel (or two to keep them in pairs) to save my life. Craigs list ebay, googling wheel stores... they even exist anymore? All my local junkyards claim they havent had them for years. Any idea where to get one or two good 16.5 rims that will fit with my 33 16.5 12.50 tires?
have a pair or two pairs or a set of 5 its your choice you let me know
