My Latest Project: Hydroboost Brakes
#92
So I finally tracked down the correct hydroboost brake pedal for my conversion. Since mine is manual transmission instead of automatic, I thought I'd go ahead and post these pictures here, since this thread is the best existing resource on the subject. Maybe this will be helpful for someone working on a standard. First puctures are from a 1988 F450 hydroboost brake pedal set up...
...and for comparison, a vacuum boost brake pedal from a Gen 7 truck...

How much fabrication do you want to do?
I put one of those(the HB unit only, MC is wrong for our application) in my '88.
I had to drill new holes for the HB unit in the firewall(also pressed the studs out of the HB unit and used bolts), lengthen the brake pedal actuator shaft(the part sticking out of the HB unit with the "ring" on it), make a custom spacer for the HB unit to the old MC and wollow out the holes between the HB and MC until they fit.
Once I was done with all that, though... it worked! It just took a bit of fudging to make it happen.

Dragging this legendary thread back up to see if anyone knows where to get the hydroboost unit from! It seems like they are sold out everywhere, not even eBay has em. Looked for E8TZ-2005-B and motorcraft BRB-37.
I haven't found any pick ur part yards here in Houston that have any f450\f super dutys.
Looks like you can get a brand new kit from Hydratech still, but they want over 600 bucks for just the hydro unit.
My vac brake booster died and I would really like to go hydro if I'm going to get all up in there to replace it. Any help is appreciated!
Edit: I am open to using a later model SD unit (04-07 readily available in junkyard) and working with it to do the conversion. Just making sure the bolt in option is actually off the table before going that route.
Second edit: kept looking around and found car-part.com on another page... That's the spot!! It's Nationwide and has Tons of old F Super Duty/450 trucks with hydroboost!! Some as cheap as 50 bucks for an "A" grade part and some on the shelf ready to ship. Only bummer is most of the yards are mon-fri only so l will have to wait till Monday to see what the cost plus shipping will be. Fingers crossed I can find a decent one.
