I've heard of people putting automatic trans fluid in the fuel. Wud someone have time to give me the run down on what it does and the proper way to do it. Thanks
WHAT A DUMB! QUESTION!!!!
Actaully I have heard the same questions. Some say it helps clean the injectors and other intake stuff. Other say NO, DON'T DO IT. I have added some ATF to my tank (left over pint/quart to a full tank with no noticable differance). I hope some one can answer your/my question too!
DUMB QUESTION!? never Brother, welcome to the FTE OBS PSD!
the main thing auto trans fluid in the fuel tank does is ensures that you get a $5000 fine if you get pulled over and your fuel tank is dipped to see if you are running dyed fuel.
fuel injector conditioned like Diesel Kleen or Howes is a much better choice.
If it's brand new fluid it won't hurt anything to run it. I used to put a quart into my fuel bowl when I swapped filters to clean the injectors out.
You can put it in the fuel tank to help clean the fuel system a little if you want.
I also saw an article about a guy with a 7.3 excursion running it on 75% ATF and had put over 100k miles on it so far with it that way. BUt he was using used fluid that he filtered several times. But that isn't reccommended by a lot of people...
I agree with Tom though... a good diesel additive is better. I havn't used ATF in over a year in the fuel.
I run DieselKleen every fill-up in mine and it runs smoother and get better mileage. And if you really want to clean the injectors Seafoam is great stuff!
Thanks all for the quick replys. starting to nickel and dime me but I can't see myself driving any other truck. Love this truck
we are all "hooked Lined and sinkered". It is a GREAT vehicle! If it weren't we wouldn't be here. skip around the other forums and see how they are. I feel We are the best forum here, IMO of course.
i think in the 23 years i have been running these ford diesels, i have put 3 or 4 bottles of conditioner in my trucks.
and my 88 has 493,000 miles on it. 3 injector pumps, and 2 sets of injectors.
it needs new again, but i only use it for plowing now, so it runs good enough for that.
