It has been 5 years in the making and 4 years since the engine was rebuilt but I have finally started the beast. The 1978 302 sounds incredible. If I can figure out how to add an audio file I'd let you all hear it. I'm so excited because now I'm one step closer to the maiden voyage. New radiator will be here in about 3 days and off we go!
Congatulations ,a very exciting step,a fresh motor it must have killed you not being abel to start it up as soon as you got it completed, 4 years you defenitly have patience. Rite on cant wait to hear it on video. Did you do any mods when you rebuilt it?
The video was taken on my phone so it's not the greatest and I still have to get the timing adjusted but other than that I am pumped that there is now life in my truck. Enjoy!

Sounds great ! One thing to look out for...My engine and tranny were rebuilt by pros and it was about the same amount of time before I got them installed and running but rubber seals dry out over time if the engine sits for a long time. I wish I had put oil in the engine after rebuild to keep them from drying out. I have small leaks from the main seals on the bottom end. Also it's not a bad idea to squirt a small amout of oil down your spark plug holes as the piston rings can start to rust against the inside of the cylinder walls. My 2c
I did put oil in the engine after the rebuild and about every few weeks would put the drill down the distributor hole and turn the oil pump. The a few rotations of the crank with a ratchet just to make sure it wouldn't become stuck. I missed a few weeks here and there but everything seems fine so far...keep your fingers crossed. I will post picks of the stearing shaft and mounts in just a few. I have a friend coming over tomorrow who is a Ford mechanic and he is going to help me adjust the timing and carb. Can't wait!
That is with open headers. I have a new pair of Flowmasters that I will be putting on in a few days or so. My cousin actually did the rebuild for me so anything other than the above listed specs I wouldn't know. We just opened a new speed shop in Florence and I've heard they have a Dyno so I'm going to check that out to get more specifics.
Sounds GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got to get mine fired up after setting radiator and coating the tank/install the tank--then we can light it up. Congrats on getting your's going.
