6 hours in the truck...22 MPG

I had 5 people, gear, etc in the truck today for a 6 hour drive in hilly NE PA. 22 MPG at 65-70 MPH.
Gotta love it.

Great MPG!! Mine was slightly lower on vacation at 19.9 going and 20.1 coming back but it was impressive nonetheless.

Wow. Best I've had is 18.2 going between 60-65 about 180 miles. At altitude, leveling kit, 35" tires, long bed, CC, etc. North of 20 is just amazing.

I like what i am hearing on the MPG.

I am looking for a new truck but i am not sure if i should get a f-150 or f-250 with the 6.7 diesel. It will be a family vehicle and maybe a daily driver not sure. Somedays i will need to tow my 22 foot skid steer trailer with my compact tractor on or my bobcat. I think the f-250 would be safer for pulling the trailer and hopefully get better MPG than my F-450 v10 (7MPG)
On the other hand i need it to start all day everyday in the winter living in MN and i need to get to work to open the roads up for the people.
Also does it kinda cost more for ownership of a diesel truck? with maintenance and stuff.

I am always impressed by the 20+ us mpg I see on the forums. The absolute best I have ever seen is 18.5 in almost 1 year of operation. That and I use a cetane boost and good gas! Just drove over 1600 miles on vacation, all highway, and as usual 18.5 is the best seen. Oh well.

I have gotten the 22 mpg on long drives with an empty truck, But most of the time I don't come close. It's all about holding 1500-1600 rpm for long periods to get that mileage.

Dmon I pull my skid loader and MiniX every day with my truck. If you are pulling those loads, You will want the superduty vs the F150. Maintenance wize. Yes the diesel uses 13 qts vs 5 qts of oil each change. Filters cost a little more. But you will make it up with 12-14 mpg towing mileage vs the 7 you get now.

I got 19 on my 600 mile trip to Tenn, but those hills keep even my Jetta's mileage lower. Doing back to Tenn next week so we will see if a few more miles on the truck increases the mileage....

Last family trip of the summer - PA to GA - 2100 miles, exactly 20.0 mpg. Went down via I-95 through DC and came back via I-81 over the hills of NC and VA. Drove 5 over most of the entire way. Worst tank was around 18mpg (got some bad fuel in SC is all I can guess), best tank 23mpg in GA on rural highways for 6 hours. Absolutely F-ing amazing. Great family vehicle, kids, wife, dog all confortable, all happy, all refreshed even after 8 hours in the truck at a time. I would not trade this monster for any other vehicle on the road today.

if your lookin to do some heavy towing (skid loader or tractor) go with the 250 6.7l. these trucks are towing beasts! and like you said, the 250 would be safer then the 150, even tho im sure the 150 would lug it around. the mpg in these trucks, considering the weight is amazing! as far as the truck starting every day and in the winter, the new diesel includes an OPTIONAL block heater now, unlike older diesels where it was mandatory. only because the truck is proven (according to ford) to fire up at -40 degrees. i bought mine in the dead of winter and was shocked how well and fast it started up (just as easily as in the summer) and the remote start is AWESOME in the winter/summer, you get about a 10 second delay after pushing the start button so in the winter your truck gives itself time to warm the glo plugs. there really isnt anything about this new 6.7l that isnt customer friendly, and nothing you wont fall in love with!!

is that hand calculated?? my truck is normally about .5 mpg worse hand calculated. but I have seen it as much as 3 mpg off, that was right after I had the new flash applied to my truck. while I haven't seen it yet, I feel confident my truck will do at least 20 mpg, and that would be hand calculated. but where I live we normally drive at least 75, most of the time 80mph and that really takes a bite from mileage.

I'm regularly getting 20-22 at 65mph around northeast Colorado (depending mostly on wind). At 75mph on the interstate 17-19 is the norm (again, depending mostly on wind).

I stopped hand-calculating because I was always within 1-3 10ths anyway, which for me isnt enough to worry about.

My driving is heavily dictated by the little green bar. That is typically what I have on the screen when I'm driving and it really does help me manage my right foot!

Thanks guys
Like i said I would not tow ALOT but enough other than that it would be the family vehicle.
I have seen some F-250 i like. Is there a big difference between the f-250/f-350 diesel? Would i be better off with the f-350?

since i get 7 mpg with my dump and cant really tow with my ranger so YES i need a new bigger rig!

That was the lie-o-meter. I've checked it by hand a few times and it's very, very close to what the computer says.

Just an update...did another 5.5 hour trip in the same general area. I ran 60 on the way down and got 22.4 MPG....I ran 75-80 on the way back and got 19.5

I'm impressed with this.
