vacuum line help??

I have an 86 F-150, I-6, single barrel carb, all stock setup (I think---bought used a few years ago). At the top of the carburator is a hose running off of it, about a foot long, and it's connected to a piece of small diameter (1/4"?) hard piping---looks like similar type of piping used for fuel lines. The problem is the hard piping isn't hooked up to anything---just handing onto the tubing!

The tubing is hooked to the carb on the side at the very top of the carb. The port the tube is hooked up to goes into the carb and comes out as a small (slightly larger than a pin-hole) at the top of the throat of the carb.

My knowledge of carburators is lacking (obviously), so any help on what this tube is and where it should be hooked up is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Air rushing into the carb passes by that port and forces some air into that tube. The air is then fed into a closed chamber in your exhaust manifold then routed out and back up into the choke housing. Since that line is connected to the hot manifold, a metal tube is used for the last inches in and for all the inches out into the choke housing. Most of the time they rust off or someone swaps carbs / manifolds and forgets to unhook these, -they break off from the manifold. Aftermarket choke stoves are available in the "help" section of a parts store.
