You've never replaced the air filter on a '99
:-staun
It's pretty simple. Just undo the little latch, pull the intake apart slightly, take the old one out, put the new one in and reverse the process. Should take about 5 mins and doesn't require tools.
It's a piece of cake! I just installed K&N #E-0945 in my truck this past Sunday.
Open the clamp. Pull the top half of the assembly away from the bottom half. Discard the old paper element. Install the new one. Put everything back together.
One note: make sure the K&N does not have excessive oil (red in color) dripping/running off it.
Nope. Just bought my truck a couple weeks ago and air filter is next in line to get done so I'm going with K&N. Thanks for tips fellas. I'm sure it will be a easier than the fuel filter which I'm going to do today.
So what is the latest story on the K&N debate anyway. I have read that they dont offer any increase in HP or fuel econemy and that they oil up the MAF sensor. I was going to do one myself, but it seems that they offer no advantage and could cost more money in the long run (MAF)
That K&N sticker on the airbox looks cool when you open the hood! Seriously, I honestly think I got a slight MPG increase with mine-not much though. Less than 0.50 mpg by my calculations. No difference in performance that I could tell.
I just put a K&N in my SD yesterday, It took me 2.4 seconds. One time it took me 4 hours to put a K&N in my old Ranger. The air box was melted together. had to get a new one.
