I hope you guys can help me out. I have a 1986 f-350 with a 460, I am replacing the rear gas tank and am trying to replace the sending unit as well but am having trouble finding one for this truck. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Kevin
yes, they have electric pumps, I need the entire sending unit, hanger, sending unit, pump & screen. Seemingly difficult to find.
Yes, they are....
I'm going to give you a part number and the name of ONE place (the ONLY place that I can find) that says they can get it for you, they also happen to be one of FTE's sponsors.
But I need to tell you, the guy who normally does this stuff over there (Horizon Ford in Seattle, WA) is on medical leave and some of his coworkers are filling in for him as they can.
They give us a discount on parts but one of the requirements is that you use the Web form to do that.
Now, I have heard (read) here of some of those coworkers mistakenly telling people such as yourself that they don't have the part (which they might not) but that they also can't get it to sell it to you (which they supposedly can).
That 'getting it' part is what Ed Olson (the guy on medical leave) is good at.
You might just look up their phone number and call them if they tell you to go away after doing the Web form stuff, even though it's against the "normal mode of business."
With that said, here ya go:

Thanks for all the help guys. After trying 2 different ones from Advance( that wouldn't fit), I told the local repair shop to deal with it as i had to go out of state to work for a couple months. Any way, the local Ford dealer parts guy figured out that although my truck is a 1986, it was produced late in the run and has a 1987 fuel system. So, it has a O.E.sending unit in it.
if its a smaller hole with the fuel pump inside has the heart shaped plug then it for the hot fuel trucks i have one for a 19 gal midship tank BRAND NEW i think i had to hit LMC to get it i caled bronco graveyard and they sent the the stand non elertic one

Please explain the method the partsguy used to be able to figure this out.
If the parts catalog listed TWO different fuel pump/sender units, an early and a late for a 1986, there would be a before/fromproduction date listed.
There ain't! So, the partsguy is FOS!
The only way your truck could have a 1987 fuel system is...if it's a 1987.
Look at the original, it will have an ID number marked on it. Post what it is.
WTF? I don't know the method the parts guy used, nor do I care. All I care about is my truck has a new sending unit that works. But thanks for your comment.

Where did you get the replacement, at an autoparts store?
If the production date listed on the Certification Label (upper right or left corner) is: 8/86 thru 12/86, you have a 1987 F350, not a 1986.
You may not care, but I do. I look up parts everyday for FTE members, and if they read that a "late" 1986 has a 1987 fuel system, they may believe this hocus pocus.
The 1980/89 Ford Truck Parts Catalog has only one part number listed for your '86 F350 460 w/a steel aft axle tank: E5TZ-9H307-FA (replaced E5TZ-9H307-F) = 1985/86 only.
