After my truck has sat for a couple days, I will prepare to crank it, wait on the glow plug indicator, and turn the key. The truck will sometime start then immediately stop. After turning the key again it will start just fine...any ideas about what this may be?
Possibly injector sticktion. Does it run ruff until warm? Any smoke when you start it? Any way of reading codes?
It kind of coughs a little bit at first start put it quickly smooths out....there is a little smoke on start....and I do not have any way (or know how to for that matter) of reading codes...
I agree with the above. http://www.thedieselgarage.com/forum...d.php?t=112058
Rev-x is tried and true to clean out the oil system. Seafoam has also but very little, same with hotshots and zmax.
If you are in doubt on what to use, get a bottle Rev-x and use it for an entire oil interval.

cycle your key til the glow plug shuts off 3 times, starting it on the third cycle. It wont fix sticky spool valves in your injectors, but it will get the truck running on the first try.
I am also having a similar problem. I have been using Mobil 5w40 syn for the last 119K with an Amsoil by-pass. I did an oil change this weekend @10K. I couldnt get ahold of Mobil and needed to get going so I used Shell Rotella Syn 5w40. Now she runs rough when cold for the first 3min and stumbles when comming off the pedal still in park until it gets warm then it runs awsome. Could it be this oil. Oil level is perfect so its not the crank sitting in the oil. Could the oil make that big of a difference. Tempted to drain and re-fail as soon as I can get the Mobil but dont really want to waste the 100$ I spent on the Shell. Any Ideas
I am going 10k between changes or once a year which ever comes first. I use Ford Motorcraft full flow upstairs and an Amsoil 110 by-pass. I get the oil tested with BlackStone Labs every other change. The last 2 test so 4 changes and 40K give or take, they said that my viscosity was a little low, lead was slightly high but not in a danger zone and silica was a little high because I also had I think 15 or 20K on the air filter. The filter minder was only half way but it was time. Blackstone told me to go another 10k and re-test. Usually I would like I said re-test every other change but I may test this one as I have the Shell Rotella synth in now which I may take out havent decided yet. The Shell seems to be ok when engine is hot but it is making the engine run really rough from a cold start which cold start for me in FL is letting it sit over night and the Edge CS says EOT and ECT are around 80Deg. I have the Mobil synth now but really didnt want to waste the $100 in Shell sitting in the engine but if its going to keep my truck running rough on cold starts its out. Its only been in since sunday will give it maybe a few more mornings and see. What do you think?
