I have a white longbed 69 f-100 currently clad with black "wagon wheel" wheels (they were white) and super fat tires... I hate them. And since the tires are going to crap, now's my chance to change it all to my liking.
Any suggestions on wheel styles/types? I don't want some crazy 22" jobs... just something nice, cool and not $300 a piece.
Heck I might just go to the Pick-N-Pull and get some original steel wheels and then find some original hubs for that retro look.
Boy, that's like asking what's the best color! It really depends on what look you're going for. I am building an F250 4x4 and plan on using Mickey Thompson classic wheels. I think those look good on any truck.
One look I always thought would look cool on an F100 would be stocker rims painted flat black with a chrome beauty ring and chrome lug nuts. Gives it a kinda 50s-60s SoCal hotrod look and it's cheap.
I'd check out some of the wheel sites. Lot's of them offer package deals with a set of tires and they usually offer the more popular combos.
I alway thought the Cragar SS's look good for a sort of retro hotrod look although I have heard that the chrome peels off of them.
Another idea I had was to get my stock wheels sandblasted and powder coated the same colour as my truck and then add chrome beauty rings and the small hub cap with the FORD logo.
Check out the 92? ford stock aluminum wheels. I got a set for my f100 for 80 bucks at a local tire shop. They were used of coarse, and being there alum they wont rust. Good luck Doug

It took me a while, but, I ended up getting 15x6 original OEM wheels for my 1971 F-100. Cost $130 for 5 rims. I think they look just as good as the wagon wheels. Once I step back up to 34s, I will have to ditch them. Though I think the rims look pretty swell with the 31s.
I put a set of wheels on my 71 off of a 96 F150 that I like a lot... check them out in my gallery. The only catch was that I had to buy lug nuts with a deeper taper.
Also take a look at the 'before' pics if you're serious about going the retro route. I still have those and maybe we could work something out if you're not too far away.
I've got a 2 tone blue 71 F100 and it had the stock rims and I swapped them for a later year set of Ford rims that have the red center caps. These look good and they are still original Ford parts. The red caps also accent the rear side markers. Also broke down and bought a set of Les Schwab truck tires.
I've always thought that wheels from the 60's & 70's look best with trucks from that era. How about polished slotted mags? That's what I have on mine. Got them from AKHwheels.com. They have all sorts of vintage wheels.
Oh yeah, I've always liked the chrome wide "smoothies" with fat low profile tires on them f-100's.
