The spindles that the hubs ride on? Most of the parts stores like Autozone and O'Reilly's rent a slide hammer with an attachment that threads onto the spindle. Worked well for my Dana 60 rebuild.
The U-joints are a "standard" size used in many medium duty trucks so they are widely cross-able. If you want solid forged lots of people swear by the Spicer 5-806x.
Those solid forged puppies are kinda spendy, but they're supposed to be really strong. The slide hammer thing would be pretty slick. I just gently tapped my spindles (not on the threaded part) with a rubber mallet and then wiggled them off
It took me 4 hours of beating, slide hammers, pullers, torch, etc. to get one spindle off of my 50 cause of rust, hope your 60 comes apart easier than that..
when i need to remove the spindles to get the axles out, i pop the kingpins out. it is easier and quicker than trying to split the spindles from the housing

His isnt' a king pin.
There are 3 ways to get spindles off.
2x4 and a BFH.
Buzzgun.
Slide Hammer.
I've yet to find a place with the slide hammer attachment.
With a 2x4 and a hammer you work the spindle loose in a circle and it will come out.
With the buzzgun, you just buzz behind the flange to buzz it out.
I'm planning on replacing the ball joints as well, but I need to get the spindles off to replace the brake rotor shields. The ones on there are all bent to hell...
Any tricks to putting the spindles back on? Should I get a new bearing/seal kit for them?
