A weekend away

I'm trying to find a good place to spend a relaxing weekend with my girlfriend in early May(all the BS in school ends for us then, and a slow work time). I live in Richmond, VA so my closest choices are either the beach or probably the mountains.

Only being 18, I can't rent a hotel so that kind of ruined my first choice, so i'm thinking of a cabin by the beach or in the mountains.

Have any of ya'll done anythign like this in the VA area, or around it like no more than a 3-4 hour drive?

Any suggestions?

A weekend away

I liked the Petersburg area, it's only an hour or 2 away from Richmond, it's pretty and has a few interesting places there, if you're in to camping, I've heard of a few places there. Also, if you feel like heading west to the mountains, try Galax, it's off US 58 and it has a few campgrounds too along the New River Trail, I've camped at a lot of them and they're pretty nice, also within your drive-time radius. I don't know what kind of relaxation you're into, but I guess camping could fall into that category. If you're in to beach camping, try something on the Eastern Shore, it's remote, quiet and a good place if you like to fish (excellent fishing there!!). There's a few campgrounds on that side. Only downside to that is possibly getting there. You'd have to go down to Virginia Beach, pick up US 13 North (if you're afraid of heavy traffic, don't go through here!!!) and cross the 17 or 18 mile long Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel to get there, it doesn't bother me, but if you are prone to sea-sickness, don't drive on that bridge, it can make a tough guy lose his lunch in a hurry, I've seen it happen there. Like I said, if camping's not your thing, then ignore this. Camping is cheap and can be fun if you have the right stuff. If you decide to drop down in to NC, I can help you more, as I have camped in a lot of places in Northern NC/Southern VA. I live about 40-50 miles south of the VA line in NC. By the way, I'm 17, wish I could be as close to my girl as you are to yours, mine lives 200 miles away.

Generally speaking - when I spend a "Weekend Away" the scenery tends to look like this:

Cape Hatteras North Carolina. Thats where I would head get some windsurfing in on the Palmico sound and then head over to Big Bubba's Barbecue. Plenty of camping and rentals.

MW95F250,

I haven't talked to her much, so mainly right now i'm looking for a cabin with a few anemities. If you know anything in any area that's cool. I'm willing to travel 3-4 hours to get there. So my first thought was around in the blue ridge mountains and around luray. I know my girlfriend likes to camp, but I don't have any gear and I think she just wants a nice little cabin or something, doesn't need a TV and everything.

I know where you are in the boat of your g/f living two hours away. I broke up with my ex about 6 months ago(of 3.5 years) who lived 3.5 hours away. It's hard, but it can work. The distance isn't what made us break up, so keep your head up, if she's the right one ya'll will be together eventually.
