Have an '05 with a new motor. Key on the injectors won't buzz they just click (clack) away slowly. Result is the engine doesn't start great when cold. Truck runs excellent and starts good when warm. This isn't a problem now but will be come winter.
Here is what I've tried
- New batterys 1000 CCA - no change
- Rev X - no change
- Just installed new FICM (swamps 58V unit) - no change
- Oil change 15w40 rotella (no change)
There are no codes and I believe all the ground wires are good. The truck has the latest flash. Can't figure this one out.
Must be injectors but no smoke no rough idle and they were tested less than a year ago - one replaced.
Any ideas ??? Really worried if I take it in to the local dealer there not going to find anything and I'll be out more $$ !
Is there a buzz test that can be done to isolate injectors ??
Did a little more investigation. Did Ford change the inductive flash from a buzz (high voltage arc'ng sound) to a lower voltage where the injectors (clack) and slowly ramps up ?
Why i think I had a problem is a buddy with an older 6.0 van has the loud buzz when K.O. - this van would not have the latest flash.
Did your swamps FICM come preflashed or is it a Ford flash? I've heard trucks with the same "symptoms" you describe but I don't know what flash they had. On some the injectors start clicking slowly and ramp up. Mostly on later model trucks. An 04 I did yesterday with a "new" FICM and the latest flash buzzed the injectors very quickly from initial key on. None of them had problems starting.
It came pre-flashed which I assumed was the latest Ford Flash ? The FICM is actually from an '03 but with Swamps updates.
I was expecting it to 'buzz' like some of the videos on you tube etc. Its still doing is regular thing of 'clacking' which I'm told is normal ??
This flashing thing has me confused as my buddys van is an '04 - it buzz's with key on. Starts really well cold so I'm associating the lack of the loud buzz on my truck to be the issue. It may not ?
Keep in mind my truck starts okay. It does start better if I cycle the key twice when cold. When the weather gets colder it will start becoming more of an issue.
As I understand it, the original flash didn't buzz. Mine doesn't and it was last flashed Jan 2006, according to the Oasis.
As I understand it, the buzz flash came out to try to help with stiction. Then the first inductive heating flash that liked to kill FICM's, then the latest inductive heating flash. I don't believe the latest flash would buzz the injectors.
Called the local Ford dealer. Correct there was a TSB to change the induction to more of a rattle / clack than a buzz. Not sure why more people haven't noticed this ?
Be nice is one of the Techs chimed in to note the actual time (04 or 05 ?)and tsb.
