Replacement body side cladding
Hey guys, I've tried the propane torch trick and mother's "Back to Black" on my '05 Expedition body side cladding, nothing is a lasting fix. I called my local dealership, and they said they side cladding kit was about $100. Is there anybody else making them, or any place online that sells them cheaper? I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and buy new ones for this to be fixed right.

I believe that the "kit" you mention is about $100 for each piece of door molding, so that would be $400 for all 4 doors. Then there are the little pieces on the front quarter-panels next to the mudflaps, which are about $20 each.
Bear in mind that the new panels will fade just like the old ones. Several folks report having better luck painting them with a Krylon spraypaint made specifically for plastics...

What? Oh **** that, I'm pretty sure the guy at Ford said $100 for the whole damn set. If that's not right, Krylon Fusion paint here I come! Do you know what color they are using that matches the stock gray?

There is another home remedy that worked a lot longer on my ZJ Jeep. 50% paint thiner and 50% boiled linseed oil. It worked very well and lasted about 6 months, pretty easy. Krylon has also worked well on jeeps. If you were to do the 50 / 50 mix I would try it in a spot nobody will see first. It could very well be different plastic on Fords than on older Jeeps. I have also used the 50/50 mix on the trim piece on my vette and it worked there also.

I looked at my Eddy last night and my cladding is painted. Is yours painted? If so the only thing that will help is to paint them again, buy new or buff them as Alloro suggested. The Krylon seems pretty good. I have not used it myself, but have heard of others being happy with the results. I have also seen where people paint them with bed liner. Would last but would be a texured surface.

Currently re-painting them with Dupli-color "Bumper Coat" I've only got one of the large pieces done at this point, it's a little lighter than the bumpers, but looks a hell of a lot better. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Don't have them re-installed yet, and all I have is crappy cell phone pics, I forgot my camera.
This is what they looked like after doing the torch trick and mother's back-to-black about a month ago. They looked good for about 3 days, lol!
