suspension question

I have a 1977 ford f-250 2wd and i am looking to get it on the road her pretty quick. i was looking over things as far as suspension goes before i get a inspection and noticed when i grab the bottom and the top of the front tires there is alot of play in them. does that mean that the ball joints are shot? it is amazing how smooth the truck is because there is no shimmy in it even at high speeds and rides 20 times better than my 1999 ford f-150. if it is the ball joints are they hard to replace? any help would be great and thanks in advance

First, they have king pins, so no ball joints. I don't know if it is the king pins or maybe just loose bearings? Either way, these trucks are pretty simple to work on.
