I am finally going to install a set of gauges on my truck. I am using a SG2 for ECT, EOT, and trans temp. For fuel pressure, oil pressure, and EGT I will be installing gauges on the pillar.
My question is regarding sensor location for the oil pressure sensor. I am considering 3 options.
1.
Running a hose from the stock EOP switch location to a T fitting that I can connect the stock EOP and a real EOP sensor. I need to know what size adapter to get for the port though.
2.
Installing an EOP sensor in the oil cooler test port. I like this idea the best but I'm not sure how involved removing the fan shroud to get to the test port is. Also not sure what size adapter I need here.
3.
Aftermarket filter cap tapped for sensor. This sounds great but I am concerned with having to screw around here for filter changes.
I've been looking on FTE for posts regarding all these options, but to be honest there is not a ton of info. Aside from regular maintenance, I haven't really done any other work on my truck so I am not yet familiar with taking things apart or what all is invovled.
So I've been busy at work and planning for my gauge install. Dissapointed nobody made any suggestions but I am figuring it out anyway. Apparently the oil pressure switch is a -4 ORB fitting. Found that on another diesel forum. Anyway having second thoughts about using that location so I am leaning towards the oil cooler test port. Feeling more comfortable with removing the fan shroud after looking in to it. To get at the port though I'm thinking I'll have to take off the fan too though. Anyone know for sure?
I don't know if you will have to remove the fan or not to get to the test port. To answer number 3 above. There really isn't much to remove the oil cap with the sensor in it. The sensor should have a short pig tail (maybe 2-3") with a quick remade type tab on it. So for filter changes you just unplug the sensor right there unscrew the cap replace filter and screw cap back down then plug sensor in.
The scanguage won't read lpop because the system dosent monitor it. The sender goes straight to the dash gauge. So the computer never knows what lpop is. Also, as I'm sure you know, the dash gauge is just a glorified idiot light. It shows 0 untill 7 psi then at 7 psi it reads normal. Witch is way less than what you should be getting at idle.

Yeah it sounds easy enough to disconnect. I guess with the aluminum cap you shouldn't have to worry about cracking it when tightening it back down but I like the idea of being able to put a socket on torque wrench.
your SGII will get ICP that is your High Pressure Oil sysytem pressure
your truck wont run without HPO and LPO feeds it
and most dont monitor LPO I dont know if SGII has an Xgauge for low pres oil I tried awhile back and there was nothing yet there might be now
and IIRC the gauge on the dash is LPO FWIW
I've considered this too. Heck one post I came across said an lpop gauge is pretty much useless. I have considered not installing it. It'd save me some time and money that's for sure.

I didnt know that the sysytem didnrt monitor it LPO just knew that gauge on dash was it
makes sense Y I havent seen a Xgauge for that

Good point there. Apparently auto makers are afraid of people getting freaked out by the gauge's value fluctuating with rpms so this is what we get.
Thanks for the link. Funny story here is I borrowed an sg2 from my dad a few years back for use on my last truck. I gave it back to him but he now said I can have it for keeps so I sent it in for updating. Can't wait to get it back.

cool I was thinking of sending mine in for an update they came out with some cool features in the last year
I think with the update it will dial in fuel milage better
the new SG had a more specific way to add fillups
Let us know what the upgrade comes with and if you think it was worth it
Thanks Benny
