I have a 2000 3.0 extended cab Ranger with just over 40K miles. I went to get an alignment a month ago at Sears, and they performed the alignment and I got their sheet telling me everything was in specs.
I drove the truck about 1000 miles this last month. I had noticed the truck tends to go more to the right, as it did before the alignment. Since the warranty on the alignment was for 6 months, I took it back today to have it redone.
They came in and told me they needed to install an "adjustment cam" and a "cam bolt" because Fords did not have them installed at the factory. I declined to spend $45.00 for them to install a bolt. I have never had this happen to any of my other vehicles.
My question is, what are those parts, will my alignment keep showing off over time and if what they said is true, why don't Fords come with this part? Is this part easy to install myself? Any other advice would be appreciated.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks to all who read and reply!
Cams are quite common on our fords. Your pull will never go away unless you do this to adjust the caster of your truck. Caster and camber can sometimes be changed with the cam. Is yours a 4x or 2wd? Best bet is to have it done. I suspect the reason they didn't sell it to you up front is because of how your caster split looked. Unless you told them of a sevre drift or pull then they would probably not have paid it a 2nd thought. I have a 92 ford and had to do cams. That pain in the A@# is now gone. HTHs.
