Ok before you guys ask, pics will come later lol. Over the weekend my stepson and I swapped out my axles. I now have the d60 upfront and 4:10's. This thing loves the lower gears wit hthese tires. I and seeing lower egt's on hills and better takeoff and throttle response. I used the 1ton positive arch springs and it leveled her out alot. The swap was pretty easy and only took use about a totall of 12 hours.
I didn't get any pics of the install sorry. But it was really straight forward. I just pulled all the d50 parts and bolted in the d60. You will have to drill 3 holes for the track bar mount and use the d50 shocks. Also the front driveshaft for the d50 is to long. I am cuting mine down about 2 inches. A 90 degree airdrill works best for the holes. You have to drill them from the front inside the front cross member.
feels like a truck again i bet.
tall tires and high gears don't mix well.turns 'em into slugs.you don't know how bad until you get the proper gear back to 'er though lol.
your clutch, and whole drive train really, is going to be much happier now.
rural stop and go driving fuel economy can actually increase too.the engine just doesn't have to struggle so hard to get the beast rolling off the line.gearing is everything.
so you went from 3.04 gearing to 3.51 gearing.so pretty much like having 3.55's again with those sneakers.much better.
I was not thinking that i would have to drill anything. I have a complete parts truck. The axle, all steering components and drive shafts are still in the parts truck(it is a complete truck minus grill and headlights). I thought it was a straight bolt up project. Did you have to drill because you used some of the d50 steering components?
No, my frame didn't have the holes in it for the track bar. All it had were the holes for the ttb hangers and there is only 2 koles on each side of the member for those.
Joe, the hours I am currently working are not condusive to me getting pics lol. Maybe this Sunday I will get the chance to take some. I do know that the 1 ton springs really brought the front up. It is about 2 inches or more. I can't wait till I can get all new bushings in there.
I still need to get this rig wieghed. Last time I hauled a load of scrap (the frame and body of the donor) my truck and the 16' tandam axle tag along I used wieghed empty at 11000+ lbs. That was before the d60 swap.
