straight six running hot?

hi i have a 1993 ford f150 xl with the 4.9l inline six. the other day i had a load of pallets in the back and i noticed that my temp gauge was still in the normal range but it was right at the high end of "normal". ever since that day the temp stays in the normal range but it runs hotter than it usually should. when i see the temp increasing i blast the heat for a bit and cruise in 5th to cool it down a bit. What could be causing this? Also i noticed that in my coolant resovoir it looks like it has overflowed a bit. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Might want to check your fan clutch...mine was acting weird-sometimes run hot, sometimes not. Didn't matter if I was loaded down, running A/C etc. I replaced the fan clutch and the temp gauge is rock-steady.
