2000 Excursion, wont start, interior lights blinking

Truck is a 2000 Excursion (not mine, helping my father fix his), V10 4x4 auto about 160k miles. Tried searching couldn't find anything relevant The problem is it wont start, not even a solenoid click, and the interior lights are blinking as if they were hooked to the turn signals (steady blinking and you can hear/feel the relay in the fusebox clicking). Turning on the key, hazard flashers or headlights makes the blinking go away, turning them back off starts it up again. The blinking also effects the power windows (the windows go up about 1 inch at a time in time with the blinks). Hitting the panic button on the keyfob causes the horn to go off very faintly in time with the blinking. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery did nothing. Checked all the fuses, they were all fine, the #1 and #2 position relays (the ones in the fusebox) are clicking in time with the blinking. The truck started doing this suddenly and with no warning (no dead batteries, jump starts or anything recently).

Can you jump start it to get the motor running? Battery sounds like it needs a charge.

Did it rain recently? Maybe your windshield has a leak messing with your electronics?

I have had remarkably similar problems in other vehicles, which always turned out to be battery related.

Battery is discharged. It may be bad. Take it out and bring it to Auto Zone or O'Reilly's and they will load test it.

If you can jump start it and it runs, check the system voltage. It should be 14+V. If it is, then you shut it off and the battery is below 12V, then it is likely the battery being bad. If you never see 14+V with the engine running, it could be the alternator too.

Had this happen last month, found it to be a drain on the battery running it down. Make sure nothing is on or powered in the engine off key off position.

Lights flashing battery clicks

I recently (just finished less than 2 hrs ago) replaced the fuel pump in my 2000 ex and I hooked the batterie up and the flashers are blinking along with the interior lights and the running board lights. If I turn the ignition over it stops other than that they blink. I can pull the blinker switch to turn the high beams on and it stops for a few seconds if I turn the emergency flashers on it stops too until I turn them off. This has drained my new batterie. Any ideas would help. Thanks I have already received a lot of help on changing the pump.

Bill, consider starting a new thread for more responses. 1st idea is to fully charge that battery and give it another try.

Try opening the steering wheel stem covers and see if you have a bad connection or a chaffed wire. You may need a new multi-function switch.
