Trailer wireing??

I have a F450 and I assume it has a trailer towing package for the wireing to the rear. I am hooking up the plug for the trailer and and have found the turn signals, bu light, tail light. There are a couple of 12 ga wires that I am not sure about. One is the white one, I assume it is a ground wire. The other one ( sorry cant remember what color) but I assume it is for the elec brakes. My question is where do these wires come out at the firewall or inside the cab to hook up my elec brake controler too. Normally I just run a 12 ga wire from the controller back to the rear for the elec brakes, but if the one wire is for that purpose, where is it located in the cab or under the firewall. Does it go through the fuse box? Also you have to tap in to the brake light switch. Is there a plug where you can just plug into it or will I have to cut and tap into it right at the brake light switch?

My 06 F250 came with the brake controller factory installed so I didn't have to go through this. On a couple of other trucks, the connector was under the dash with everything you need pre-wired. Just stop by dealer and tell em you need the pigtail for the brake controller. Wasn't too expensive. One truck had the pig tail in a plastic bag in the glove box. Had never been used. Glad the previous owner had left it in there.

This should help you.

Etrailer

This gives the wiring diagram and should help you to identify your wires. I built an extension cable for my fifth wheel using this and it worked very well.

There should be a pre-wired plug as afore-mentioned under the dash. I assume since you are asking that there is no 7 pin connector on your bumper?

I know how the plug hooks up in the rear. I was just trying to find out where the plug in is located in the cab. If I could find this, then I could just run a wire from my controller to it and avoid running another wire for the trailer brakes to the rear. Any one know where that plug is located.

Found this at:
Tekonsha Brake Controller with Wiring for Ford F-450 Super Duty 2011 - 90885-3034P

Note: If your Ford F-450 Super Duty has a factory-installed trailer hitch and 7-way connector, then all the wires for the brake controller have already been run. If not, additional parts will be required to complete the installation of the brake controller.

You might also try checking the websight of the manufacturer of your controller. Many have detailed instructions and even video's.

This is somthing like I was talking about from dealer in earlier post. It would plug into truck at connector you are looking for and other end to controller. If the controller has wires but no plug, you could cut the plug off this pigtail and butt-splice it to controller. Clean install and no mods to truck harness.

The location of the plug, and the shape of the plug, and thus the wiring harness you need for a brake controller, all depend on the year of the truck.

05 and up trucks have a different plug in a different location that 04 and down trucks. At least in the Super Duty line.
