I'm about to do a conversion for a rat rod project. What I have is a 3 speed transmission that took me weeks of research to identify. It's in essence a factory built 1948-1950's ford 3 speed tranny that was built in Australia, but found its way into a 1964 Ford Fairlane (tailhousing has a dead-giveaway casting number).
Similar to this:
Except, the side-cover is on the right side, for the right-hand drive vehicles.
What I'd like to do is adapt it to an 11" clutch and flywheel, with the help of a 10 spline input shaft, as the current input shaft is a 23 spline(?) input shaft. Reason being that the current clutch is 10" and it's 3-fingered pressure plate.
This one's for the "Numberdummy's" out there: Would it be possible to swap the input shafts, without or no machining? Are they interchangeable?
The reason for this is the owner of the rod is on a shoestring budget and wouldn't want to spend more on say a T-10 (if you can find one). Sure we can find parts, but he has some sentimental attachment to the tranny...
