Can anybody tell me if I can use the rear disc brakes off of a '95 Lincoln on my '87 4x4? I have the flange bracket, calipers, and disc from a car my father was sending to the scape heap. The Lincoln had anti locks that were on the axle ends with the gear, but my truck has anti locks on the differential. Both vehicles had the 8.8 31 spline axles. I have the flange bracket part number as E51C 2C101-AA and the only number I can find on the calipers is cast 107786 KN.
The axle tag on the Lincoln housing was (top line ) 421E
(bottom line) 86L27A88 6B26
you would have to alter the mounts on the linc rearend to put on the springs or vice versa for the brake set up. and i would measure the rearend to make sure its the same width
Not sure how to set up the anti-lock, but the brakes should bolt on. I've put Lincoln rear disc on a sport trac axle in a Jeep, but the anti-lock was done away with. Also put Crown Vic. disc on a Chro. 8.25 that was a little more work.
Frankly I don't see any point to this and any gain would be minimal. This topic has been discussed before and the general consensus was not to waste money/time on it.
On a reg cab truck maybe, with anything bigger and when loaded rear disks will help a lot. This should be a relatively simple bolt-on affair, and you can simply ignore the ABS components from the Lincoln since there is nowhere to connect them on the truck and the truck RABS will function normally anyway. You may need to install an adjustable proportioning valve to get the correct front/rear brake balance, you'll know soon enough after installing them.
