HELP !!!!!-------Trac-Loc or not?

Hey guys,
I am having new ring and pinion sets put in both axles on Sat. (3.54's) The guy that is doing it is very reputable from all the things I've heard. I have the option to install a Trac-Loc at the same time - $450 for gears and labor both axles and $200 for the locker in the rear Dana 60 -$650 out the door. Is this worth it, I've heard some negative things about these (clutches wearing out, slipping) I am not going to do any serious off roading, mainly a highway truck that will see a lot of snow in the winter time. Give me some pros and cons here. I don't have the cash for a high dollar mechanical locker.
Thanks

HELP !!!!!-------Trac-Loc or not?

For $200? Do it. The Dana Trac-Lock is a good unit. Clutch packs do wear out in time but they are easily rebuilt. Yoe will be much happier with the truck,

HELP !!!!!-------Trac-Loc or not?

Daily driving, you shouldn't see a difference. You will get more "hop" in heavy four wheel drive situations.

You'll be totally amazed at the difference with a trac-loc drivetrain over the normal open ones, i.e. not having to lock the front in for 3" of snow, etc.

Sounds to me that you have a good deal going.

HELP !!!!!-------Trac-Loc or not?

315/75s are comparable to 35" tires, right? a trac-lok may be ok, but for a heavy d60 and bigger tires, i think this combo may not be the answer if you're looking for performance off-road. for street it may be ok, well mannered, because with such load against it, it may slip more. IMO a locker would be better, but may cost a couple hundred more. depends on your purpose for the truck. good luck!

HELP !!!!!-------Trac-Loc or not?

If you have to do a substantial amount of street driving in the snow, you may lose a lot of driveability due to both wheels spining and breaking traction, unless you drive like I do and floor it around a corner and take it sideways. I have heard both good and bad on the subject, but it usually comes down to what kind of driver you are. Take it easy and you should be fine. Even if you do slide off the road, you'll have the extra traction of the locker to get you out of the ditch.

Your should be fine with the LS's, they work pretty good. Rebulding is necessary, but really not often. I had looked at some clutches with 60k miles on them and they still had some miles left in them.
