Today, after I picked truck up from insurance company for the repairs the mechanic came up to me and asked to shake my hand. And i quote hime " For a 17 year old kid i am impressed for what you have done to this truck, I currently own a 6.7 and a 6.4 and this thing pulles harder than both of them". "Not as fast but it feels like i have alot more power under the hood when i get into it". The only thing i had to say was " you beat on my truck?" he just laughed. Made me feel pretty good that a mechanic with two newer trucks like a good OBS 7.3l hope it makes everyone feel just as good.
I took my truck in for an alignment and watched the tech hot rod my truck down the road and grind second trying to make a turn.
And when I say grind, I mean GRIND.
Gah!
I harassed him. I said "not drive a stick shift much?"
He said "all the time."
And I told him, "you take corners in 3rd on a powerstroke, not grind second"
Pissed me off. heh.
He would get it into second on the corner and dump the clutch out like he was upshifting.
*sigh*
He did a great job on my alignment, but that pissed me off. I don't think he knew I was standing out side watching him hot rod my truck down the road.
I think I remember you saying that your synchros are shot in your transmission. Is that correct, William? Is that why he was grinding second?
Syncro's are going in 2nd.
You just don't take a corner in 2nd on a powerstroke with 4.10s. He was rolling like 25 mph and trying to shift into second. You gotta wait for the trans to spin down to get it into 2nd.
After you moving in our trucks, you ignore second unless you slow way down.
Really nice actually. Less gears to shift. Town driving is a lot of 3rd and 4th stuff, unless everyone is being an ****** and not letting you time lights.
He started out in first gear every time on my truck as well.
I don't think he had ever drove a diesel stick shift.
After he got done laughing, did he admit to beating on your truck?
I'm guessing that comment is aimed at me.
And no, he never really did.
Kinda hard to miss that he was trying to see what it had when black smoke is pouring out my tail pipe though.
I'd still take my truck back for him to do an alignment though.
He was a good tech and answered all my questions and spent extra time getting it right.
I'll just leave a note on the dash. "This is not a race truck, and you take corners in 3rd gear."

Well I'm an **** retentive nitpicker so I'll point out you have to spin UP the input shaft. That's what the whine you are hearing is.
Even with syncros it's best to double clutch if you want to go into second for some reason.

I don't thing he's driven many gasser F350's either. With 4.10 gears you do the same: start in 2nd and don't go back until you stop.
When you downshift any stick shift you can hear the gear train spinning up if you listen carefully, particularly if you're going to a gear moving too fast for it.
