g'day,I don't know if this is the place to ask but is there a way to bypass fuel shutoff switch if you can't find the switch, have looked in all the places that I have read in these forums but can't find the reset switch.I have a 1986 F250 xlt extracab with a 460 auto.
Just a hint. Knowing where you are, and where the truck was built would help with the answer. If you are from "down under", is the truck an import(left hand drive), or aussie-built(right hand drive). On US built trucks, the impact switch is on the passenger side, near the tunnel, and tucked up under the a/c or heater duct. It may even be covered by the carpet. Also, with a 460, it had a oil pressure cut off switch on the motor, and if dual tanks, a couple of relays under the hood. If any of these go bad, it would cause the electric fuel pumps to not work.
g'day and thanks for the reply,am down under it is an import left hand drive, found a small oblong case under the heater duct with a white toggle button on the top,but it would not reset (with a click). truck would fire up and go well all the time, sometimes after a few months of not being started i would push the throttle down a couple of times and it would fire up as good as gold,I started it a few days ago just to move it and put some petrol in it,turned it off put the fuel in and all it does is turn over and won't fire.would like to know is there a way to bypass the switch,or should I look for another fault, any help would be great, thanks
g'day billies12, go to my website (in my signature) look on the left side for "downloads" in there you will find the wiring diagram for the 86 7.5L electric fuel pumps. You can test the circuit by taking the small blue wire off the starter relay and connecting it to 12 volts. The pump(s) should run, if they do not, then you need to find the problem.
You can bypass the "inertia switch" by unplugging the harness plug and jumping the wires at the plug. I hope this helps mate.
jeez cobber, fair bloody dinkem, yore all right. howdey, thanks for the information sorry to take so long to reply but didn't know how to find your site or what your signature meant ,not very clued up on these forums but kept trying and found how to open the wiring diagram and thanks for your help, going on the inertia switch in the diagram it looks the same as the one on mine,it doesn't seem to reset so may be another problem, will try by taking the blue wire off and powering it,will probably have to ask for more help after that. thanks again
