Hello everyone. Sorry to bother you. I usually am hanging out over in the dentside forums on here. But in the last few hours, I encountered a problem in my wife's Expy that I don't know where to start solving.

We were driving back home when we made a right turn and the radio fizzled out, we lost the overhead computer and dash gauges, locks, windows, lights and the engine would not accelerate very quickly. When it did accelerate, it took longer than usual for the transmission to shift gears. When this happened, the A/C was running. After I turned the A/C off, I got a little more acceleration power out of the truck, but not much. Fortunately we were only a few blocks from home and I was able to get it to the driveway.

I got it home and shut it off. After unloading groceries I went back out and started checking fuses. All of the fuses were good, including the power distribution box under the hood. The only thing I did not check was the relays. I don't have the tools for those. The PCM fuse was a 30 amp aluminum cased fuse. I put a continuity test on it and it tested fine. A voltmeter on the battery showed 11.59 volts.

While I was inside the cab, I noticed that the lights were working again. So I tried to start it and the starter only clicks. But all of the locks, windows, dash, gauges etc are now working. It just wont start.

I am afraid that this might be the PCM. I am not certain though. If anybody could help me I would appreciate it.

 

I would start by cleaning the battery cables and checking the condition of the battery and alternator.

 

It sounds like the battery or the battery connections to me as well.

 

when that sympton happened to me, it was the alternator.
