fuel gauge issue

Howdy folks -

I have a 2006 F250 6.0, running custom tunes from Gearhead. About a week ago, I went to put fuel in the truck after a weekend of pulling the boat around. I wasn't going to be pulling a trailer for a while, so I changed tunes while the truck was fueling up. I put 16 gallons in, which should have brought the fuel level up to between 3/4 and full. As I started driving home, I noticed that the gauge was still sitting a hair above 1/4 tank. Over the next 2 days and only 5 miles or so, it very slowly raised to a half.

I haven't driven the truck since then until today, when I went back to the fuel station to fill it up for a weekend trip. I topped it off (only took 4 gallons until the auto shut off kicked in, then added 3 gallons on top). The gauge is still only showing a bit above a half tank. It was only two miles home, so I didn't have much time to watch and see if it rose up any higher.

Anyhow, is this somehow caused by the fact that I changed the tune while fueling up a week ago, or is it coincidence? I re-tuned it when I got home, but the fuel gauge hasn't moved...

Any help is appreciated. I don't want to be driving around guessing as to how much fuel I have.

Thanks!

- Steve

I'd start by figuring that the reprogramming somehow confused the instrument cluster. It is a computer module also. I don't quite figure how it'd happen, but maybe it did.

I'd disconnect the batteries (both of them) and turn on the lights for about 10-15 minutes. This will drain all the capacitors in the various modules and essentially reset them. Then hook it all back up and see if the problem is fixed.

I'll do that now and let y'all know how it turns out! Will I need to re-tune the truck after this is done?

No. The PCM program is stored in Non Volatile memory. It can be changed, when you program it, but otherwise it's permanent.

Cleared it right up!! The idea of disconnecting the batteries popped into my head earlier this week, but it completely slipped my mind after getting fuel today.

Thanks again for the help!
