Some locksmiths do have the proper equipment to do it. Call and ask.

You have to get a key that has the chip in it.
I got a couple of blanks with the chip from ebay and had them cut at Home Depot.
A lock smith doesn't have to program the key.
The key will already have a code in the chip.
When you have the new key cut there is a procedure you go thru with the car that will have the computer "learn" the new key's code.
You can have up to 8 keys that the computer will allow to operate the vehicle.
<strike>Your are in luck, our system only needs one key to add others.
A couple of years newer and you need 2 keys to add others or Ford will have to do it.</strike>
There is a slightly different procedure to add fobs which have their own code.

The 2003 Expedition REQUIRES TWO (2) keys and can accept up to eight (8). He CANNOT program his own keys into the PATS system by himself and *WILL* require the services of either a dealer or a properly equipped locksmith. Your information is incorrect.

Actually starting in late 98 you started needing 2 keys to program it yourself.

If his is an '03 I *think* he's gonna need two keys to add another key.

Oops, I thought I remembered only needing one key.
But, I did add 2 new transponder keys to the system myself for a total of 4.
I bought 2 transponder keys and fobs from an ebay vendor, had the keys cut and added them myself.
You do not need a dealer or locksmith to add a 3rd or 4th key.

Once he has 2 different working keys, then he can add keys 3-8 on his own. You need the 2 different key during the programming process. Using the same key twice will not work. I think it was just the 97 & 98 model years that only need one key to program any additional ones.

Why not just go to the master source instead of a wiki?

Yeah I called a local locksmith and they said they can program the key, but for 95 dollars. I advised them Ford charges 100 and I'd be crazy not to go with the dealer for the same price. But yeah I only have 1 key, so I cant program the 2nd by myself. But i did what everyone else did, got a key and 2 fobs off ebay for 25 bucks, compared to what ford charges. Thankfully ford is nice enough to at least put the procedures in the owner manual to program them ourselves. Thankfully the other posts in here told me how to get the door entry code, which worked like a charm. Love Ford, hate how they try to stick it to you to get codes and program a key, 100 bucks, dont see how they can think that is acceptable.
