I am starting this thread after being inspired by several others that have been going strong lately, namely mikeo0o0o0, grinnergetter, and MikeS29, it is really a combination of 2 or 3 trucks, I have a 1978 F-100 that I bought yesterday for $400, body is straight with a little rust in the normal spots, I would have bought it earlier but I have been trying to stand strong on wanting a cab with factory A/C, but my (Hoarding problem as my wife calls it) took over and I bought it when he came down on his price, I also have a 1976 F-150(body on frame) that I bought today for $225 with an immaculate cab, it does have factory A/C and it is a Ranger XLT, not a spot of rust I could not believe it, it has a less than bothersome dent in the back where the bed was bent in and hit the cab, I also have a 1973 F-100 that was my Grandfathers and is sentimental (the reason all of this started) it has a running (not horribly well but good enough to light the tires up still) 302 and a three on the tree tranny. The floorboards on this cab have no rust but the roof does and someone cut a hole in the cab floor (presumably for a shifter) that I replaced the original one with in 1998, My various parts for consideration include a running 351HO from a 1984 F-150 (I just bought all the gaskets to freshen it, am painting it, and bought a new Holley 600 Carburetor for it, I also have a 302 from a 1984 Thunderbird that runs well (has a little blowby but very minimul) my tranny choices are 2 three on the tree standards, a NP435 4 speed, and the C-6 tranny from the 84 F-150
So I stayed home from work today to get the parts truck apart and out of my driveway, my homeowners association is not friendly when it comes to this kind of stuff, so I took the seat out which is almost perfect (and very red), then spent several hours pondering how I was going to get the cab off from the truck which is sitting with no suspension of the back of my trailer, as if sent by god himself two Jehovah's Witnesses came and practically begged to help so the four of us were able to lift the cab off and onto the ground in front of my garage, (hey its a start and a big one), I also installed the freshly (and beautiful I might add) intake on my 351W HO, the inside of the engine looked unbelievably well maintained so I dont think I am going to go any further than just resealing the engine, spent the rest of the day trying to seperate the one good side from the bed and am beginning to think that it is less than possible. As soon as I figure out how to do it I will post some pictures
Ok, so today was not real productive, it is 106 or so outside and that makes it real hard to want to work harder than necessary, I finished stripping the parts truck and will take it to the scrap yard tomorrow, I really wanted to get the rust free bed bottom and keep it but after pulling the one good side off I realized that I did not want to go through that again. I also took a pair of valve covers to the car wash and cleaned them somewhat to prep them for paint and to put on my 351W HO. I wanted a more classic original look and the 1984 valve covers were not it at all
