Good morning everyone, TGIF!! Another short day, gotta like it! I have the machinists here cutting up my sheet metal, turns out the fab shop is dry and has power, so they were able to hook a brother up!

Morning Jim. I have a buddy coming over tomorrow, to teach me how to use my mig welder. I want to do a lot of praticing before I even think about starting to weld on the 67. So, I'll have a bunch of 3" x 12" strips of 18 gauge sheet metal to practice with. Plus, I cut up a bunch of 1/8th inch square tubing, to practice on also.

Yeah, just call me money-bags...
Actually it was $4.23... About the only time I go there is when I have a gift card. I can't believe some folks go there daily, that is a pricey habit!
So Pat, you gonna practice on the wife's Expedition, maybe add some fancy wheel skirts and some air deflectors? lol

Pat, You shouldn't be too scared. Just remember that the thinner you go, the harder it is to weld. As you get towards the end of your weld, all that heat will accumulate and makes it very easy to blow out the end of the weld. Prep work is the key to a good weld, and body filler is your friend!

Yeah, I've done a lot of reading and watching people weld sheet metal. Mainly a LOT of spot welds, and moving them around to control the heat. I do have some copper backing plates to help with filling holes.
