Hi Art. The straps on my 87 are pretty rugged - they used the same ones on some 97's. Others look like tin foil. Still I wonder where the bad ones were made. Some parts rust like crazy if you look at them cross-eyed.
That's a kick in the shorts about that recall... My '01 Superduty's tank straps are still great. I had to drop the tank because the retaining ring broke that holds the sender/lines in the top of the tank, and I painted the straps just for the heck of it.
Yeah it is, but I would say that it is better to have the recall to replace them then to call on me or my brothers and sisters in the fire service to have to put a fire out caused by the tank dropping on the road while driving.
