MEL information?

Does anyone know of websites or books dealing with these FoMoCo red-headed stepchildren? I'm really interested in putting a MEL 430 or 462 into my '66 F-250 flatbed. Any help is greatly appreciated!

MEL information?

Why? From up-close observation, they are kinda oinky for what they do. Heavy, and relatively thirsty, why not go for a 429 or a 460 and save a lot of weight, not to mention getting a bit more mpg, and having 'bolt-on' parts for installation and connection...
Had a 430 in a '60 Merc Colony Park 4-door hardtop station wagon. The name is almost as long as the car... Loads of torque, but, got 12mpg around town. And 12 mpg going down the interstate at 65-70. Oink. Oink. But, we had 12 kids, so I guess in terms of passenger miles per gallon, it got up near a 737... Ha. chuckle. snort.
The Lincolns had 462, with the power steering pump mounted on the nose of the crankshaft in the timing chain cover. Used it to run the wipers .. That's a whole nother story. Sometime they wouldn't shut off all the way...
Combustion chamber in the block.. wedge formed by a canted deck. HARD to bore. No thank you in my opinion.

I realize that a 385-series would be a more practical choice, but I have access to both a complete carb-to-pan 430 and a 462 missing only the intake, water pump and distributor. These two dinosaurs are just sitting in back of my grandfather's shop and I could talk one out of him pretty easily, since they have just been taking up space for the last 20 years, probably more.

I'm not afraid of a gas-hog; I mostly use my pickup to tow farm equipment or haul hay and 12 mpg is much better than the 7-8 mpg that the 392 in our International 1-ton gets. There is also something attractive about keeping my pickup all old-school and period, a 430 or 462 would be a much more interesting swap than a 429 or 460. Perhaps it is because I'm still fairly young and somewhat idealistic.

Anyway, I'm not dead-set on this yet, but I do like the idea. Thanks for your response!
