Hi Everyone, I recently purchased a 1984 F-150 with a 351W HO that had been totalled and had a great engine and tranny in it, I am planning on putting the 351 in my 1973 F-100 and am wondering if the distributor that is in it will work with a 70's electronic ignition box or if I should just go with my points distributor
1973 did not have electronic ignition it still used points!! You would have to convert the truck to duraspark. Also dump the ultimate piece of junk 4bbl carb on that 351w and replace it with a good carb. That carb was a pile even when new!
I know that the truck uses points, I have a 302 in it now with points but figured that going to Duraspark would be an upgrade if it would work with this distributor, also I bought a new holley 600 carb today and am anxious to try it out
Yes that was the Holley carb can't remember the CAT number for it but it was a POS!!!!!! You could sneeze wrong while driving and the adjustment was gone. Ford had Holley build that carb for emissions.
Ok cool, so the box out of like a 78 truck will work with the distributor out of the 84 if I wire it right, great, I know the 302 distributor won't work but I do have a 351 point's distributor from like a 70 model I could use if I had to, just thought Duraspark might be better
Mr Ford,
I want a 600 Holley because they are so pretty, but a lot of people say go Ederbrock.
Will I be ok with the Holley or should I wimp to reliability. Thanks/Robert
