So, I desperately need new front brake rotors/ pads on my 2001 ford ranger. 2wd 4cyl 5speed single cab. I have tried to order breaks but I am unsure weather or not I have ABS? and I guess the rotor size varies based on this?
Also another large concern of mine is that when I attempted to order the brakes the rotors were 1 piece with the hub?! I have removed hubs before but I am unsure if I need special tools?
Don't know about rotor size, but it's possible rotors for ABS equipped vehicles have 'tone rings' embedded or attached, while non-ABS rotors don't need them. Check under the hood, and follow the brake lines from the calipers to see if they detour through an ABS 'block' or are a straight shot to the master cylinder and you will know for sure.
The rotors are held on by large hex-headed nuts. Secured with a cotter pin and castellated washer. Remove the nut, wiggle the rotor to dislodge the outer bearing, remove the bearing and then remove the rotor. Oh, caliper has to come off before the rotor can be removed.
