No arguements if it is actually needed, even if not too often. My point is those who buy 4WD for resale value &/or the "cool factor". You never get the full option price out that you put in. And as far as "cool factor", nowdays you almost can't visually tell a 4WD from a 2WD. Hey, if you want it, get it! But don't use some BS reason for it.
It's a shame they don't offer the electronic locking diff in the F150 like they have in the superduty. that would close the gap quite a bit. I'm not a huge fan of LS. Seems like when you need full traction, the LS can't keep up and you end up spinning one wheel.
I drive a 4x4 because I do see snow regularly, deep on occasion, and I tow a trailer, pretty often across slippery surfaces. If I could have two trucks, probably one of them would be 2wd.
Ive owned one 2X4 truck and never again will I own a pickup that doesnt have 4WD. That being said is because I live in MI and michigan winters can be bad trying to drive in a 2WD truck. Its like riding a fish with all the tailspin. 4X4 may not be used all the time, but it is priceless when you do need it. If youre living in a state when you dont get 2 feet of snow like we do here, and you dont do any off roading or even traveling down muddy dirt roads, 2WD would be the way to go.
The need for 4x4 is really based on personal needs. Yes, I hunt and fish like most in this forum, but I also plow and need to travel 15 miles through a sea of stuck bmw's in order to get there (I drive a 450 for my buddy's company). I covered the cost of 4x4 after 2 snow storms. SO, it really depends on what you do with your truck.
The difference in a 4x4 and 4x2 is about 2 inches in height, which may not seem much but yah, I can usually tell the difference in the two, even if the 4x4 sticker was covered up.
So, yah, I agree with the cool factor I wouldn't own a truck without it, anymore. We had a 2wd Explorer and then bought the NBX Explorer (with 4x4) and even though I only used it half a dozen times in 3 years, it was priceless every time - and even on the explorers - the 4x4 set up higher, had larger wheels/tires and most definitely "looked cooler".
But it is one of those things that by saying it, you are going to offend 2wd owners. But it is no different that someone saying a Platinum is cooler than an XLT - we all have our opinions and are free to use them without grief from anyone.
If you don't have a need for the 4x4, I wouldn't get one. Save yourself the money on the purchase price, gas, maintenance costs, and higher insurance. I am from south Louisiana too, and trucks are popular, regardless if they are 2 or 4 wheel drive. You shouldn't have any trouble selling a 2 wheel drive F-150 in the future.
Agreed..
I live in the north with snow and the sales people always say 4x2 don't sell. Hogwash when they have they are gone fast.
You won't loose any money in the long run on the 4x2.
