Hi all, I was pulling my boat this last weekend and about a hour and a half into the trip the engine light came on. Boat and trailer are about 7000lbs, pulled into the gas station to put gas in the boat. Shut enginne off for about a half of an hour, when I started back up no engine light. On the return trip home same thing light came on about the same time. I made it home and let it set over night, next morning fire it up and no engine at all. The manual says bad diesel or air in the line, I only put about 6000 miles a year on the truck and change the oil and filters once a year. I need to take it to the dealer for the ABS light anyhow, any thoughts on what this could be, berfore I take to the dealer? I have 49,000 miles and it is stock.
Prob EOT/ECT spread more than 15*...... Do you have gauges/ScanGauge? Have you had the trouble codes pulled? Ever had the EGR and Engine Oil coolers replaced? You are prob at that point......Dealer will verify.
Yes, mine was done last August with my warranty..... check your paperwork. NOTE: I used my Ford ESP warranty on mine. HINT: buy a set of ARP studs for your heads.... see if they will install them instead of the Ford bolts. They did for me.
I was lucky...a friend had bought them for his 6.0 - then sold the truck w/o installing them....so I got a pretty good deal. I think you can buy on ebay for something like $4XX.00 Also check on Amazon.com
You should be able to drive it empty....if you don't have gauges to monitor oil and coolant temps, I wouldn't tow with it. Didi you lose any coolant? Open hood and look for a white residue on and around the coolant bottle.
Well I just got about the worst news from my dealership. They said my main computer module in the engine needs to be replaced and the O-Ring for my ABS also needs replaced, at a toon of $3200.00. Not covered on the 6yr 100,000 mile warantee.
Find out what codes exactly the dealer pulled. I've heard of PCM's failing, but never of one that is "going out", especially while the truck seems to be running OK. Perhaps they meant the FICM (Fuel Injector Control Module) is going out.
BTW, what engine light came on? The check engine light (little yellow engine), or the wrench light?
The yellow engine light, he gave me codes of 1000 and 1100 he also said that they were more. He said it would get worse with time, I think I might have the computer changed first!
Just got off the fone with the service manager of Legacy Ford, It is the ECM module going out at $978.00 with labor and the ABS in now $ 782.00 with labor. Never had a problem with them before, just had a new kid dealing with me in the service department.
