We were out of town this week with a friend in his Navigator and the suspension started hitting hard. got back to hotel and the rear dropped. Compressor was kicking on on start up. He took it to a local dealer for repair estimate. $1400 for new compressor, and gate valve, and new 20 amp fuse. now the compressor doesn't kick on. HE passed on the repair and limped it home and is going to have it done closer to home. In the meantime what can he look for? It seems the dealer wanted to replace everything but the bags themselves. 4X4 2000 Navigator with 5.4 BTW

AFAIK, it take a 50A fuse for the LLS. I'd check to see if there is power to the LLS relay. It is up behind the right headlight, accessed from under the vehicle ( between the right front wheel and the front bumper.)
If the relay has gone South, bring at least $110+ dollars to the dealer.
Once you get the compressor running, search for leaks with soapy water.
Hell, for $800ish you can buy a full conversion set to go to coilovers and it only takes 1 hr per corner for a novice with hand tools to install that set.

When mine did the same thing it was the slip fit coupler just in front of the master cylinder and above the steering box. Most dealers have the coupler in stock for about $20.00 but it might be available at a parts store. When you find the coupler inspect it carefully as they will crack and leak, not just break. It is an easy replcement.
