Does anyone know what I would have to do to change the old generator out of my 1962 Ford F-100 to a alternator, instead. I'm not even sure if this is possible, but if it is could anyone help me?
I have read enough in here to know that it is possible to convert these trucks to a one wire GM alternator setup. I think it involves finding, modifying or fabricating a custom bracket for it. Use the search utility on here and I'm sure you'll find detailed information on the question. This site is a gold mine times ten of great info - you just have to fire up the search utility and read read read. Good luck.
these guys better give me a piece of the action all you need to do is work out the bracketry! i printed out the schematic and soon i hit the wrecking yard
Very simple.... I switched from a generator to a 1 wire alternator... go to any parts store,,, i went to a local speed shop and told them what I wanted to do...
With the one wire alternator....you just run a wire from the alternator to the battery or the starter side of the solenoid....
You may need a new bracket depending on the engine.. I have a y-block..... it took about 25 minutes to install...
