i have just purchased my 1st diesel...i did this in hopes of gaining fuel mileage that i couldnt get from gas after talkin to several people.....i am not wanting to use the truck to pull heavy loads or run at the drag strip even though getting on it a few times will be fun... i was going to order a K& n cold air and a bullydog, but after running across this website i am being told not to and was directed to this section being that its a 03 f250 crew 6.0.....i am walkin in the dark here and have no idea which way to go can u help.
First off tuners and/or intakes aren't a for sure thing about getting better mileage. You might see an improvement, you might not. You might even see a reduction in your MPG. It would be far better and cheaper for you to train your right foot a little more to eeck out as much as you can.
Don't do mods like the ones you mentioned for fuel economy reasons. They are performance mods, the companies have noticed a side benefit for some owners and that is something that they sell.
I would stay away from a/m intakes unless you plan on doing more mods then just a tuner. I have a bigger turbo, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump and I still run the stock intake.
Also before you do any performance mods period get gauges to monitor the vehicle's vitals. In fact, do that anyway even if you don't mod the engine.
let me give you a little more info.....i do have pillar w exhaust temp gauge and boost gauge. the exhaust is all 4" pipe from up by the block all the way back no cats w a 6" silverline tip...i looked at silverlines website and it looks just like their exhaust dont know for sure...before i purchased it had a stack up through the bed...had guy look at truck before buying he said the turbo looked good doesnt seem that it was run hard but what do i know.. truck has 125k drives and runs great just a small walking issue w front end that i am trying to track down...
ok here we go. I do this day in and day out.. its how I pay my bills. I find doing heads both simple and repetive. I do them in cab per the workshop book. so here goes my standard disclaimer... I have never met you and can not attist to your mechanical abilities what I find easy to do many people find hard while others just find it time consuming and frustrating at best...
now with all that said warranty time to r/i heads is aprox 15 hours that does not include any adds or diag for the concern. the typical cyclinder head job customer pay is 25-30 hours depending on the truck and how it is equiped.
