I'll try one more time......has ANYBODY out there ever converted their 56 f-100 to a 4 wheel drive? If so, what did you use? I swear I have seen some in the user galleries.
I haven't done it but to do it you would need 4x4 axles from a 59-64 ford truck. These axles still use leaf springs. You will need to probally get new u-bolts and some shims for the rear axle to get the right pinion angle. You would also need to get the transfer case. If you are using original engine and transmission the transfer should fit. I don't know about any clearance problems. You could use later axles but then you have to deal with the coils.
Don't take my word for this because i haven't actually done it.
I may be jumping the gun a little bit, as the 56 isnt even mine yet. Thus, I don't have any numbers. Got excited and was hoping somebody had done this. Had contemplated putting body on a different frame/drivetrain, but had also thought about putting new axle up front with a divorced transfercase. Too many options and don't even have it yet! I know this is the place to ask though. Thanks everybody
